CSRD

CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING DIRECTIVE

CSRD reporting made easy

From 2025, the European Union will require large and listed companies to disclose information on risks and opportunities related to their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, particularly on the impact of their activities on people and the environment.

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will replace the EU’s existing ESG reporting framework (the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD)), and will set a higher standard for the scope and rigour of sustainability reporting. CSRD will cover a wide range of categories beyond carbon emissions, including pollution, water, waste, and biodiversity; it will need to be included in annual reports, and will be subject to audit assurance.

Measure

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and are the reference point against which emission reductions can be measured.

Aims and targets

Targets allow you to judge whether the plans you made to reduce your carbon emissions are working, and whether the reductions achieved are meaningful.

Reduce

Select best carbon reduction projects for you and your business, based on your values, the cost, and likely payback time.

Track

Track your carbon emissions to reflect the changes and compare how well you are doing against the targets.

Offset

Offset schemes work by paying volunteers, companies or charities to do things which ‘negate’ your carbon emissions, for example, planting trees.

Certify

Certification is a valuable process that provides checks and balances for the sector.

Frequently asked questions – CSRD

What is a double materiality assessment?

This is an assessment of both what your organisation does to the environment and what happens to your organisation as the environment changes. Typically, this is done through selecting one of the common scenarios for the earth heating up and using that to identify risks and opportunities for your organisation.

What happens if I don't complete and file a CSRD report?
The penalties vary from country to country but are generally a mixture of fines for the company and more severe actions against the directors of a company.
When must I file my CSRD report?

Depending on the size of your organisation, your CSRD report should be submitted alongside your 2025 or 2026 accounts which relate to tax year 2023/24 (large organisations) or 2024/25 (smaller organisations).

How do I file my CSRD report?
When you are ready to file, press the “Submit this report” button in the Reports->CSRD->”Report submission” area. This will convert your report to XBML and file it with the EU. You will then be sent confirmation that the filing has been completed which you should keep as evidence that you have complied with the legislation.
