5 Practical Ways to Reduce Energy Consumption for Warehouses
With the ESOS Phase 2 data capture period beginning in January 2018, it’s time for companies that operate warehouses to start thinking about ESOS.
HVAC systems, lighting and the transport fleet usually account for the bulk of a warehouses energy consumption. With the ever rising energy bill and the concerns about climate change, the cost associated with all of these can be easily reduced, if the business knows where to look at and what to do.
Only a small percentage of site managers felt that ESOS had helped support the energy efficiency initiative. This highlights that using a key assessor with extensive understanding and experience is key to unlocking any benefit.
Â
1. Lighting
Installing occupancy sensors and timers can help to reduce lighting costs by 30%.
2. Transport FleetÂ
Consider registering your drivers on an eco-driving course. Typically, the results of such can be up to 15% reduction on fuel.
3. Heating
Divide the building into various thermal zones with their own controllers that are un accordance with their actual funcational needs.
4. Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Use night cooling. By allowing natural ventilation to occur at night, the heat excess is purged while the building fabric gets cooled, delaying the needs to turn on the AC system the following day.
5. Building Fabric
Install barriers between storage areas and delivery doors such as dock shelters which enclose the entire back of a lorry in order to reduce the outside air exchange and thus heat loss to the outside environment. But why stop there?
