Beyond reducing environmental impact, Polyco Healthline also focuses on social and economic sustainability through initiatives like its phAMBITION programme, which aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals to drive meaningful change across its value chain.

“Sustainability is a critical focus for any forward thinking company to remain successful. Polyco Healthline has sustainability as a core value of the business, investing in its people, its supply chain management and its facilities. Working with Enistic, Polyco Healthline has recorded all its scope 1, 2 and relevant scope 3 emissions, so we can fully understand its overall carbon footprint, and where in the business process the carbon is produced. This will enable us to target carbon reduction, where it will have most benefit as we work towards our target of being Net Zero by2045.”

Scope 1, 2 & 3 Snapshot
Polyco Healthline has made significant progress in reducing overall carbon emissions, driven by the successful implementation of carbon reduction initiatives and enhanced monitoring capabilities. These efforts have enabled the company to identify key areas for improvement and act on them effectively.
Scope 1 – Polyco Healthline significantly decreased Scope 1 emissions by 87%. This reduction is in part due to the switch to electric vehicles. The use of newer machinery has also improved the efficiency of the company’s production line.
Scope 2 – Scope 2 emissions have decreased by 35%, due to the successful implementation of energy saving carbon reduction projects such as the installation of energy efficient lighting systems and installation of solar panels on site.
Scope 3 – Scope 3 emissions have increased by 10% due to Polyco Healthline now including air freight deliveries in their reporting. This marks a positive step toward greater transparency with stakeholders and customers. By more accurately tracking and measuring delivery related emissions, the company is better positioned to identify opportunities for reduction and make informed, impactful changes.
Completed Carbon Reduction Projects
LED Lighting and PIR Sensors

In 2018 and 2019, Polyco Healthline upgraded warehouse lighting to energy-efficient LEDs and installed PIR sensors. This reduced electricity use, cut carbon emissions, and lowered maintenance costs thanks to LEDs long lifespan of up to 50,000 hours.
Solar Array
Polyco Healthline recently installed a solar array to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, boost energy independence, and improve efficiency by generating electricity on-site.
Purchased Energy Efficient Production Machinery
To address high energy use in manufacturing, Polyco Healthline invested in modern, energy-efficient machinery to enhance production line efficiency and reduce overall consumption.
Efficient Shipping Methods
By sourcing from closer suppliers and maximizing container loads, the company has reduced delivery mileage and improved shipping efficiency.
SafeDon Gloves
The innovative SafeDon glove dispenser presents gloves cuff-first to reduce contamination and waste. With greater storage capacity and more efficient delivery, it supports sustainability across operations.
Future Carbon Reduction Plan
MAKE USE OF FUTURE FLEET TECHNOLOGY
The company is monitoring advancements in fleet technology, aiming to adopt more sustainable and affordable transport solutions as they become available, to reduce environmental impact.
CARBON FOOTPRINT ANALYSIS
A carbon footprint analysis will guide future actions, focusing first on emissions within the company’s control. Deliveries are currently the largest contributor, followed by business travel, which accounts for over 30% of non-delivery emissions.
SOURCE ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES
Polyco Healthline aims to eliminate reliance on the grid by expanding on-site renewables and sourcing green electricity. Renewable energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions and offers a sustainable, long-term energy solution.
SALARY SACRIFICE SCHEME
The electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme enables employees to lease EVs using pre-tax income, promoting greener commuting, reducing grey fleet emissions, and supporting the company’s sustainability goals.
COMMERCIALISATION OF SAFEDON GLOVES
By fitting more gloves per box, SafeDon reduces packaging waste, deliveries, and storage needs. This innovative solution supports lower emissions and aligns with sustainable, efficient business practices.
ERADICATE GAS CONSUMPTION
Polyco Healthline plans to replace its gas boiler with an electric alternative powered by green energy, aligning with the UK’s goal to phase out 80% of gas boilers by 2035 and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
